Hotel Zed: One of Victoria’s Best Boutique Hotels

I’ve always been a firm believer that it’s possible to mesh boutique experiences with budget prices – just take a look at my 5-star hostel guide, for example! Hotel Zed manages to be one of the best boutique hotels in Victoria without breaking the bank.

When I first visited Victoria in 2015, I was on a super tight budget. Hotel Zed was my go-to for an affordable stay, but it was unfortunately sold out during my visit. So, I was beyond excited when I was invited to check out the hotel’s new Zedstream trailer!

Hotel Zed’s Rooms and Amenities

Hotel Zed has some of the most unusual rooms in Victoria and the whole hotel is ridiculously fun, so it was no surprise that the Zedstream was as well. The trailer is chock-full of unique amenities – like a rotary phone, a vintage alarm clock, colors that pop, comics in the bathroom, and a deck with a hammock.

It rained during most of our stay, but we loved hanging out on the deck with a beer when the weather cooperated. The seating area in the living room folds out into a comfortable bed, so the Zedstream is perfect for families and small groups as well! As someone who is (unfortunately) usually tied to my computer for work, it was a cozy spot to catch up on emails during our downtime.

The lobby is also full of fun details like typewriters, record players, and board games. If you’re traveling with kids, they will love the hotel’s pool and huge slide. There’s also a game room downstairs with table tennis, video games, and more.

Hotel Eats: The Ruby

No visit to Canada is complete without poutine and The Ruby has some of the best around! My duck confit poutine was dangerously good and so was my Canadian Benny. They also make a mean caesar. You can check out The Ruby’s menu here.

Hotel Zed is near Downtown Victoria and directly across the street from Mayfair Shopping Centre. It took us about thirty minutes to walk from the hotel to Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

Hotel Zed also has two vintage VW shuttles to drive you downtown. All you have to do is schedule your ride with the front desk. The driver gave us some cool bumper stickers, so make sure you ask for some Hotel Zed swag! Bike rentals are also available at no cost.

If you’re planning a trip to Victoria (which I highly recommend you do – it’s one of my favorite cities), Hotel Zed is a fun and affordable option! We will definitely stay here during our next visit to Victoria!
